Updated Coastal Style End Tables

We’ve finally reached the point at the beach cottage where we are starting to fill it up with furniture and decor.  It’s going to be slow and I envision something collected over time rather than all new, all at once so it’s been fun thinking of ways to use things we already have.  That brings me to my updated coastal style end tables from Ikea.

B and I bought these end tables probably about 15 years ago when we first moved to the Philadelphia area.  They were simple and small in scale which was perfect for our little bungalow.

Because they were sturdy and in good shape, we brought them along when we moved back to central PA but when we bought our current home, they didn’t quite fit the style or scale of our home.  They’ve been collecting dust in one of our spare rooms ever since.

When it came time to start thinking about furniture to compliment our sofa at the beach cottage, I thought about these little end tables.  

The tables would have been great as-is but because we’ve already got so many different wood colors going on, I decided to paint the legs of the tables a coastal blue.  I thought they would maybe feel a little heavier or more substantial against all the white and light colors in the space with a darker base since there is so much white and light woods already.

I have used Rustoleum Chalk Paints before so I knew I’d be happy with the paint and even just from the photos online, I was confident the “coastal blue” would be a good match with the other colors we have already going in at the beach house.  Find it here.

A light sanding and quick cleaning is all the prep work I did on the legs before painting.  I used a brush and gave each table base two coats of paint and what a difference a little paint can make!    

This quick coastal inspired update took less than an hour from start to finish and now these little tables have a new life and a new home for us to enjoy them again.

I threw some decor on the table just for some color to make the photos more interesting and I don’t yet have our additional chairs moved in yet so the second end table doesn’t yet have a spot.  Even so, I’m super excited with how these turned out and they are just the right size and scale to fit with everything else we have going on so far.
