When it comes to fall,I love everything about the season. Aside from Christmas, I enjoy decorating our home for fall better than at any other time of year. I just love the colors and textures that go along with this time of year and I try to add a hint of the season throughout the house wherever I can but I’m also finding that as each year passes, I prefer a simplified look with less stuff.
That is especially true in our mudroom and laundry area. This small space has to function well and it can get cluttered quickly so I didn’t want to add a lot of additional decor that would only take up space that we don’t have.
I thought a lot about our fall decor this year and in spaces like our laundry and mudroom, simple updates were my goal. The new bench color in the mudroom is so much fun to work with and I found that adding hints of fall was so easy!
Our simple mudroom updates for fall include just a few key elements. It all started with a couple of updated pillows. The perfect complimentary color to the deep teal of the bench for fall is this rich golden yellow.
What says fall more than plaid? This Ralph Ralph Lauren pillow is a recent gift from my mother-in-law that she picked up at TJ Maxx, and as soon as she gave it to me, I knew exactly where it was going to live for the weeks to come.
I love mixing patterns and I love how the gold is repeated in the accent pillow that also includes teal which helps tie everything together. I bought this fabric from a shop on Etsy and made this simple envelope pillow in about 30 minutes. I’m in love with the combination!
On the laundry end of the space, the only real change is the sink skirt. This is a change I’ve been wanting to make, not really related to any season, just something I’ve wanted to do. I wasn’t sure what I wanted so it took a while to find just the right fabric. This fabric came from the same shop as the pillow fabric and I love how it turned out.
The colors tie the oak wood, the penny tile and the mudroom colors together which helps blend both areas seamlessly even though they are different. (Does that make sense?)
Back over on the mudroom side, I’ve swapped out my summer plaid rug for a more traditional style in deep jewel tones like teal and sienna. Stewie has discovered this spot for catching a quiet nap and wanted to show it off for you.
On the shelf above my coat hooks, I made just a few minor changes. I swapped out the tobacco basket and lambs ear wreath for this pretty framed art, part of the Studio McGee line at Target.
Some fresh cut hydrangeas from the yard are getting moved around the house lately and after taking some of the photos, I swapped out my green planter with some faux pumpkins for the color.
I love how the simple updates to the mudroom and laundry feel like fall without having a lot of added fall decor that clutter up the space. This is what our mudroom looks like every day, it’s not styled with additional pieces just to make a pretty picture.
