Fall is here and I’ve been slowly adding seasonal touches throughout the house. I’ve been really wanting to move away from all the heavy decor in favor of a more subtle, more intentional look. I’ve also tried to work with what I already have to create a relaxing look without a lot of added clutter or added expense.
Our front entry / foyer area gets a lot of traffic so function has to take priority. It’s easy for this space to get cluttered with shoes, coats, mail and the like so I didn’t want to fill it up with a lot of décor that would only make it feel more cluttered.
As you see, I’ve kept things warm and welcoming. I started things off by swapping out the curtains around the front door. We used these curtains in the dining room before we swapped locations with the kitchen so they’ve been in storage since then. I love the warm colors and pattern, so I was happy to pull them out again. Such a simple change that didn’t cost anything and it’s made a big impact without much effort.
You’ve already seen my lovely DIY oak leaf wreath that I made. For now I’ve decided to keep it here on the front door. I absolutely love how full it is and it brings in so much color!
To the left of the door I swapped out the mirror that’s hung there forever for these old art prints. I’m pretty sure they were in this house when we moved in and they seem to find a place in a lot of my decor. They are in rough shape but I love the muted colors and even though they aren’t “fall” they add a nice, warm touch to the space.
The coat hooks and bookshelf on the opposite side of the door got nothing more than a quick spruce to freshen things up. I’m planning to get rid of this cube shelf in the near future. Until I figure out what I want to do in place of it, I’m making the most of it. It’s where I typically hang my purse and place our incoming and outgoing mail, so having a surface to drop things is important.
For now, some natural pumpkins dress the top of the bookshelf and a super simple DIY pinecone swag hangs above it for some added texture. This was a fun little project my mom and I did over the Labor Day weekend. She loved mine so much she’s now making one of her own. If you want the details, I’ll be happy to write a post walking you through this super simple project.
On the floor, I layered the blue rug, that was already there, with this smaller blush one. The blush rug is so pretty, but a little small for the foyer by itself. Layering the two rugs together brings in some warmer colors without it looking too small for the space. This is one thing I could have done better, but sometimes you have to just roll with it and use what you have. I’m about showing real life, not unrealistic perfection.
The hall table by the stairs also got a bit of a fall update, but you’ll have to wait for my Fall Home Tour coming next Thursday for all the details on that.
