The Simply Beautiful Life | Vol. 1

Lifestyle· Real Life

31 Aug

Welcome to the very first edition of The Simply Beautiful Life. This new weekly series will be a place to gather inspiration for home, style, food, and the simple rituals that make life beautiful every day. My hope is that this becomes a cozy Sunday read — like catching up with a friend over coffee — and that you’ll leave encouraged to bring a little extra beauty into your own week.

🌿 A Simple Shift

As summer slowly gives way to fall, I’ve been making small swaps around our home. I’m starting to fold away the lighter blankets and replace them with more fall feeling options on places like the sofa. It’s not full-on fall decorating yet, but these little touches hint at the season to come. Sometimes it’s these quiet shifts that set the mood best.

✨ Words to Carry With You

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

— F. Scott Fitzgerald

I enjoy Spring and Summer and the time we spend outside after such long, cold winters but I come alive in the fall. Here in PA, fall is often a mix of cool mornings and evenings with warmer days and it’s absolute perfection in my book. Not to mention the changing leaves that turn a rainbow of beautiful warm colors, the signs and sounds of kids walking to and from school, football the food, sweaters and boots, it’s my time to come alive!

Our Living Room Bookshelves Reveal – A Cozy, Collected Library-Inspired Space

🏡 From My Home

Our living room has become the heart of the season’s transition. I’ve pulled out a few of my favorite decor books to stack on the coffee table, mixed in some fresh flowers cut from the yard, and lit a candle in the evenings. It’s amazing how a few small changes can make a space feel new again.

I’m also starting to think about some projects I want to tackle as the weather cools down a bit. I’m finally going to wallpaper the laundry and mudroom and paint. I continue to think about what I want to do in the dining room (this may be a “ask the reader” type project because I cannot figure it out. I’m hoping that we’ll make some more progress on the side porch and we’ve been talking about some changes in our back yard to incorporate a simple outdoor kitchen. Oh, and we’re getting a new roof put on the house before winter.

🍎 Savor the Season

Even though the temperatures are still warm, I’ve been craving cozier flavors. This week I made a simple apple crisp for dessert, and it was just the thing to bridge the seasons.

I also posted a recipe for a super simple Fresh Peach and Blue Berry Puff Pastry Tart. It’s the perfect end-of-summer treat.

If you’re looking for an easy way to bring fall into your kitchen, I’ll be sharing more cozy September recipes next week.

💛 Things I’m Loving

  • The limelight hydrangea we planted this spring has not disappointed! She bloomed beautifully and I can’t wait to see her grow year after year!
  • A good book on my nightstand: Book 2 of the Crescent City Series by Sarah J. Maas. I started reading fantasy books a little over a year ago and have been loving them. they are my great escape from all the stress of this world. I read ACOTAR and Throne of Glass last year and earlier this year, respectively, but kept putting off Crescent City becasue of the size of the books. I’m not sure what I waited this long, I’m absolutely loving it!
  • The scent of cinnamon candles flickering in the evening. Ok, I honestly buy a lot more tarts to melt in a warmer these days and the apple and cinnamon scents have been what I’ve been gravitating toward but I do enjoy the warmth adn glow of a real candle, especially in the evenings.
  • Football season starting — the perfect excuse for cozy Sunday nights in. Or Saturdays or Sunday afternoons, it does’t matter. I’m a PA girl so Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles all the way. No hate to the Pittsburgh side of the state but Eagles green is part of my blood and after B and I lived in the city for several years, there’s no changing me now.
  • Shopping: I’m not planning to buy a lot of new clothes this fall but I do have a couple of items on my wish list that I’ve been looking for. At the top of my list is a pair of chunky loafers. Nothing too wild or juvenile for me but something chunkier than a traditional loafer. I’m really loving the dark burgundy TOMS here.

5 Ways to Transition Your Decor from Fall to Christmas (Without Feeling Rushed)

There’s something about a cottage-inspired home that instantly feels welcoming. Maybe it’s the layers of soft fabrics, the warm glow of a lamp in the corner, or the way everyday items are displayed with charm. To me, “cozy” doesn’t mean cluttered — it means creating a space where you can truly relax and enjoy the simple beauty of home. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few essentials that always make our home feel inviting and comfortable. These cozy touches are timeless, affordable, and easy to add no matter the size or style of your home. 🛋️ Soft Layers & Textiles Nothing says cozy like a stack of pillows and a throw draped over the sofa. I love mixing neutral tones with subtle patterns — florals, stripes, or checks — to create that layered, collected look. In bedrooms, a quilt or coverlet at the foot of the bed adds both charm and warmth. Image Suggestion: Wide shot of your living room sofa with throws and pillows layered. Pin-worthy vertical image. 🕯️ Warm Lighting Overhead lighting can feel harsh, so I rely on lamps, sconces, and even candles to create a warm glow. A cottage-inspired home shines with layered lighting — the soft glow of a lamp in the evening makes a room instantly more inviting. Image Suggestion: Close-up of a side table with a lamp, book stack, and candle burning. 🌿 Natural Elements Fresh flowers in simple vases, a basket by the door, a vintage wooden bowl — natural elements bring warmth and texture to a cottage home. Even faux greenery works if you mix it thoughtfully. Image Suggestion: Seasonal arrangement on your entryway table or kitchen counter (sunflowers, hydrangeas, or eucalyptus in fall). 📚 Personal Touches Books, artwork, and vintage finds tell your story. A stack of well-loved novels, a thrifted oil painting, or a collection of blue-and-white dishes make a space feel lived in and personal. Cozy isn’t about buying new — it’s about surrounding yourself with what you love. Image Suggestion: Styled bookcase or coffee table vignette with books + art + personal accents. 🧺 Comfort Underfoot Rugs are one of the easiest ways to add coziness to a room. I love mixing a natural jute or sisal rug with a smaller patterned rug layered on top. It adds instant warmth and that collected, cottage feel. Image Suggestion: Angle of your living room or bedroom showing layered rugs. 🍵 Kitchen Comforts A cozy home isn’t complete without the kitchen. For me, it’s having a favorite mug for my morning coffee, simple linen towels, and a candle flickering while I cook dinner. These small details make the everyday feel special. Image Suggestion: Coffee setup with mugs + candle + linen towel. Conclusion At the end of the day, creating a cozy cottage-inspired home isn’t about following strict rules. It’s about layering soft textures, adding warm light, and filling your rooms with pieces that feel personal and meaningful. These cozy essentials are what make our house feel like home — and I hope they inspire you to create the same in your space.
