Rear Stairway Refresh Plus New Lighting Options

At Home· Home Decor

21 Aug

In this time of the Pandemic, it’s sometimes hard to feel the motivation to do more than what’s necessary to just get by.  At least that’s been my experience.  Even though we are still mostly staying home and always following the science, B and I have both been trying to do more around the house even if it’s just the little things that have been on our to-do list for some time.

One of the items on our list was to refresh the rear stairway.  We rarely use it and in the winter it’s really cold back there so we’ve kept it closed off since the kitchen has been done.

After I swapped out the surprise curtains, I decided it was time to open the stairway back up, give it a fresh coat of paint and start hunting for a new sconce to light the way up this tight, narrow space.

Because the stairs open to the kitchen, I painted the walls the same color as that room.  Now the stairs feel more a part of the kitchen and less like an afterthought.

The painted stairs were still in good shape so I simply touched up some of the trim and risers that needed it.  It’s always amazing what a little paint can do to any space.

The last thing to do is to replace the old, dirty light fixture, something from this decade.  Because we never use these stairs, I am really hoping to find something inexpensive that still looks good and tied into the kitchen.  Below are some of my favorites – all under $100.

Wall Sconce Lighting Under $100

Option 1:  black with a touch of brass
Option 2:  Mid Century Vibe
Option 3:  Sleek and Slender
Option 4:  Black and Brass
Option 5:  Simple vintage
