Projects are starting early this year and many of them are bathrooms. From a few surface updates in two of our bathrooms at home to building and designing a brand new bathroom where none existed at the beach cottage. I’ve got several on the list to tackle this winter but today I’m talking about a few updates for our powder bathroom at home.
Our first floor powder room “jack-and-jills” between the shop / studio and the hallway on the house side. This tiny room has a large ADA door on the commercial side and a smaller door on the residential side.
Overall the bathroom right now is pretty good. It’s one of the first rooms I really started stretching my design skills in and one that gets a lot of compliments both by clients in the studio and guests in our home.
The big problem B and I have with the space is the flooring. This bathroom was first built before we moved into the house. We had no money so we used the cheapest materials and hand-me-downs to create a bathroom because we had no functioning toilets elsewhere. The tile was the cheapest neutral tile we could find at the time. It wasn’t what we loved or really wanted but it was what we could afford.
Now that we are at a point in our home where the major projects are behind us,(and more financially able to upgrade) we have been talking a lot about replacing the tile with something we actually like. (the same tile is in our upstairs guest bath which is also on the list for some work this year)
In addition to the tile, the rest of the project is more just adding character and a more custom look to the room. It’s not a bad room at all, but it could be a lot better.
