During these uncertain times, B and I have decided to put off some larger home improvement projects that we had been saving and planning for for the spring and summer. Not knowing how long we’ll have work and an income, we are keeping our savings in case we need it. We are so blessed that we at least have that. The unknown is scary, but we are doing what we can to conserve what we have.
Despite putting off some big projects like a new roof and replacing the old, falling down side porch, we are trying to check off some smaller projects where we can. We already have all the flooring to finish the second floor and we are hoping that at the very least, we’ll be able to get the flooring all done while we are forced to stay home. As we work through each space laying flooring, we are also trying to finish up some other work as needed.
The upstairs progress stopped for a while as we adjusted mentally to everything that’s been going on. I wasn’t in the mood to do much of anything at first, but we’ve been slowly getting back to work and this past weekend B officially finished the upstairs landing.
As I mentioned, as we are working on the flooring in each space upstairs, we agreed that we’d take advantage of the fact that the rooms are empty to do some much needed repair work, updates and painting. Most recently that’s been the case in the upstairs landing. See, there is some good about being forced to stay at home plus I already had the paint.
B finished sanding and sealing the floors on the landing and before we move furniture back, I got to work repainting to match the stairs and foyer. That even inspired adding a little extra detail to the large empty wall by carrying the diamond pattern from the laundry room up to this space for a little added character.

There is a lot more contrast between the wall color and the white pattern up here which is kind of fun and I can’t wait to get the furniture and accessories moved in because I think it will all come together nicely in the end.
