2020 has been an interesting year and for most of us, it didn’t go as planned on so many levels. Personally I struggled with motivation but looking back now, I see that it’s not been a complete waste. Today I thought it would be fun to share with you a few of my favorite projects from this past year, 2020.
Feature Wall in the Upstairs Den
While this room remains unfinished, the feature wall and freshly painted room is definitely a favorite of mine from this past year. This project was made even better when we added the modern, gold light fixture to balance the more historic look of the room. Getting this room finished won’t take much and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
Small Garden Shed
Maybe my favorite project of my own this year is the garden shed that I designed and built from scratch. I’ve taken more of an interest in building and construction recently and this was my first attempt and I absolutely love it! In the spring we will hopefully be ready to tackle the garden which will go a long way toward highlighting this cute little addition to our yard!
The Coastal Cottage
The biggest and best project of all is the one that will carry into the future; our coastal cottage fixer upper. This was the one project we didn’t plan for and the one that excites us daily. It’s the topic of conversation in our house regularly as we continue to plan and prioritize this massive project! This project won’t be finished in the coming year but we expect to make a lot of progress. This is a project you’ll be hearing a lot more about in the months to come.
My Brother’s Bathroom
While I have enjoyed some of the projects we did for ourselves around the house and at the beach house, I’m maybe most proud of my brother’s bathroom because it was our first official project for someone else. While we offered advice and I designed the overall look, the style, colors and finishes were dictated by someone else and what they wanted to live with, not what B and I wanted for ourselves. The end result is beautiful and quite an accomplishment for such a strange year.
As I look back over 2020, I’m in some ways disappointed that we didn’t accomplish more. This year definitely didn’t go at all the way I thought it would. At the same time, I recognize that the slow down we experienced kept us safe and healthy throughout the year and gave us the peace and time to pause to really take note of the things we value above all in our lives.
