Decorating your home with unique pieces that have been repurposed or used in a way other than what it was originally intended makes for a much more unique and interesting home. It’s also a way to add your own unique personality to your home decor.
Lately I have been really drawn to the look of tobacco baskets used as wall decor. They provide some dimension and warmth with their natural wood and look great on their own or layered. Their open weave, also adds some pattern without going too bold.
I looked online for some to buy and was discouraged by the prices I found. I really didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on them. I decided to put the idea on hold and see if I could find vintage ones at a flea market later this summer. Then a couple weeks ago I was checking out some sales at Hobby Lobby and found some. I didn’t think twice, I knew it was now or maybe never.
They aren’t huge, but I’m trying to figure out a way to style them for the large open space above our couch. I have been tempted to do the vignette over our fireplace, but feel like I want to balance the textures of the fireplace with this combination over the couch. I also have two framed pieces of art to hang on either side of the baskets as well. I’m hoping the vision in my head comes out just as well in reality.
Before I start putting holes in the walls, I wanted to do some test layouts. Of course my favorite will be the hardest to hang but I’m confident I’ll figure it out. Next week I’ll be sharing the outcome and some other natural touches I’m adding to the family room.
