DIY Mini Holiday Wreath - Bethann Renee

Even though we won’t be welcoming friends and family into our home for the holidays this year, I still felt it was important to decorate our home inside and out. Life is what you make it after all. After B surprised me with adding some lights to the back deck, I decided to add a wreath to the back shop door. After stumbling off these small wreath forms, I decided to make my own wreaths and today I want to share with you how I make them.

I picked up two small wreath forms at the dollar store a couple of months ago. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I bought them, but I kind of forgot about them. When I stumbled on them again, I was excited to make natural wreaths with some cuttings from our backyard.

We have a very ugly boxwood in our back yard that I’ve kept purely for the cuttings. It’s in a corner that no one sees and it has been hacked so many times (before we owned the property) that it’s ugly and not worth much. I cut a handful of branches and then gathered them along with my other supplies.

For this project I used my wreath forms, my fresh cut branches, some twine, scissors and some ribbon that I had in the shop. I spent nothing on this project so it only cost my time to put it all together. Some floral tape would have made this go a bit easier but I made it work just fine.

I started by separating my branches into smaller pieces and then started spreading them out. I then got started tying my branches onto the wreath form making sure I liked how it looked as I went.

Slowly, I worked my way around each form until I got back to where I started. I then sent back and added more branches anywhere that I thought needed it.

I then cut a piece of ribbon and wrapped it around my wreath to serve as my hanger.

I purposely made it fuller on one side thinking I would add some pinecones or berries but I really loved the “messy” look in the end so I decided that for now I wouldn’t add anything more to it.
