Easy DIY Wall Mounted Ironing Board Holder

Organize your laundry room and your life with this easy DIY wall mounted ironing board hanger project. In less than an hour you can add style and character to your space.

For those of us that live in an old house, or maybe even a smaller house, having the luxury of a large laundry room seems like a far off dream.  When you are short on laundry room space, you often have to get creative with storage and one of my favorite tricks is always to use vertical space.

This post was updated February 10, 2022.

When we first moved into this house, we were lucky to have a laundry space given the age of the house but this glorified closet was also our pantry for our kitchen so space was tight.  After falling over our ironing board several times, I decided the best option was to hang it on the wall.  This would get it up off the floor while remaining easy to access when I need it.

It would have been inexpensive to purchase a pre-made ironing board wall hanger but I really wanted to come up with something that was functional of course, but that looked good too.  Our laundry room / pantry is a room I have been wanting to make some updates in, but I felt like before I got too far into that, I needed to come up with some clever storage solutions.  A pretty room is great, but if it isn’t functional, it doesn’t really do much good and I believe that life begins at home so it has to make you happy!

Materials for my DIY Ironing Board Holder

  • Piece of wood. Approximately 4-6 inches high and 12 – 16 inches wide. (I used a scrap of wood from our garage) cut to a length just larger than your ironing board feet.  The length I chose for mine gave me about 1 inch on either side beyond the feet of my ironing board.
  • 2 Coat Hooks:  Amazon
  • screws for mounting onto wall
  • drill with drill bit and screwdriver
  • optional:  chop saw

How to Make Hanger for Wall Mounted Ironing Board

The project is really simply enough that I doubt you need instructions.  For the newbie DIYers out there, I’ll walk you through the steps as best I can.

I started by finding some great coat hooks.  (Mine are from Amazon)  They cost just a few dollars and have a worn, rustic look to them that I really liked.  Our older colonial isn’t super formal so the simple, weathered look that has an antique feeling fit perfectly.

The best part about this project is that you can make these no matter what your style is!  Simply swap out the hooks for something that fits your style and choose wood and stain or paint to fit your home’s decor!  I really love these for a more modern look!

My next mission was to find a piece of rustic wood.  I was prepared to hit up our favorite salvage yard outside town but B saved me a trip by sending me to our garage instead.  I guess it pays to have lots of scraps from past home projects.

I found a piece of wood that I liked in B’s scrap pile and cut it down to size.  The color of the wood was good already so I didn’t even bother to stain or paint it.

With my board cut to size, I simply mounted my hooks onto the wood and then mounted the wood onto the back of the door to the laundry / pantry room.

To get the spacing right, you can either use a tape measure to measure the feet of your ironing board or you can use your ironing board to mark your board with a pencil where you want your hooks to go.  Either will work just fine.

Once the hooks are mounted onto your board, it’s time to hang your ironing board hook to the wall.  Because B has all.the.tools, I used a stud finder to anchor mine to the wall.  If you don’t have  stud finder and if you don’t know where the studs are in your wall, you can use drywall anchors and screws which will do just as well.  These are rated for 75 pounds which is WAY more than you’d need to just hang your ironing board on the wall.

That’s it!  My super simple, DIY ironing board hook for the wall.

The project took less than 30 minutes from start to finish and my total cost was less than $10.  If you buy a piece of wood and or stain or paint your project may cost a little bit more but the pleasure of knowing you created this one-of-a-kind ironing board wall hanger is priceless!

Now if only I had a better looking ironing board.

cozy and festive Christmas bedroom in red

5 Ways to Transition Your Decor from Fall to Christmas (Without Feeling Rushed)

There’s something about a cottage-inspired home that instantly feels welcoming. Maybe it’s the layers of soft fabrics, the warm glow of a lamp in the corner, or the way everyday items are displayed with charm. To me, “cozy” doesn’t mean cluttered — it means creating a space where you can truly relax and enjoy the simple beauty of home. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few essentials that always make our home feel inviting and comfortable. These cozy touches are timeless, affordable, and easy to add no matter the size or style of your home. 🛋️ Soft Layers & Textiles Nothing says cozy like a stack of pillows and a throw draped over the sofa. I love mixing neutral tones with subtle patterns — florals, stripes, or checks — to create that layered, collected look. In bedrooms, a quilt or coverlet at the foot of the bed adds both charm and warmth. Image Suggestion: Wide shot of your living room sofa with throws and pillows layered. Pin-worthy vertical image. 🕯️ Warm Lighting Overhead lighting can feel harsh, so I rely on lamps, sconces, and even candles to create a warm glow. A cottage-inspired home shines with layered lighting — the soft glow of a lamp in the evening makes a room instantly more inviting. Image Suggestion: Close-up of a side table with a lamp, book stack, and candle burning. 🌿 Natural Elements Fresh flowers in simple vases, a basket by the door, a vintage wooden bowl — natural elements bring warmth and texture to a cottage home. Even faux greenery works if you mix it thoughtfully. Image Suggestion: Seasonal arrangement on your entryway table or kitchen counter (sunflowers, hydrangeas, or eucalyptus in fall). 📚 Personal Touches Books, artwork, and vintage finds tell your story. A stack of well-loved novels, a thrifted oil painting, or a collection of blue-and-white dishes make a space feel lived in and personal. Cozy isn’t about buying new — it’s about surrounding yourself with what you love. Image Suggestion: Styled bookcase or coffee table vignette with books + art + personal accents. 🧺 Comfort Underfoot Rugs are one of the easiest ways to add coziness to a room. I love mixing a natural jute or sisal rug with a smaller patterned rug layered on top. It adds instant warmth and that collected, cottage feel. Image Suggestion: Angle of your living room or bedroom showing layered rugs. 🍵 Kitchen Comforts A cozy home isn’t complete without the kitchen. For me, it’s having a favorite mug for my morning coffee, simple linen towels, and a candle flickering while I cook dinner. These small details make the everyday feel special. Image Suggestion: Coffee setup with mugs + candle + linen towel. Conclusion At the end of the day, creating a cozy cottage-inspired home isn’t about following strict rules. It’s about layering soft textures, adding warm light, and filling your rooms with pieces that feel personal and meaningful. These cozy essentials are what make our house feel like home — and I hope they inspire you to create the same in your space.
