Progress in the dining room is moving along. As each week passes, we seem to accomplish at least one step forward which is getting us ever closer to the finish line and it is so much fun seeing things slowly take shape and become a reality.
We sanded and finished the floors this past weekend. We bought more utility oak flooring from Lumber Liquidators and seamlessly blended the two-year old floors with the new floors in the new dining room. The new bath has more red undertones but it is red oak so it is to be expected.
You may have noticed the table in some of the photos from last week. We brought it in to make sure it was going to fit into the new space and to do some repair work to it since it’s still winter outside. This beast of a table also weighs a TON so we both prefer to move it as little as possible.
You may also notice that we hung the lights. This is my favorite part of the room so far. They look beautiful with the wall color and all the wood elements.
Just in the last couple of days we brought in the rug from our old dining room and brought in the benches. The room still feels pretty empty but it is finally starting to look like a dining room.
Why I Share Progress Photos
My goal with this blog is to inspire you to live your best life. Even if it looks completely different from mine, it’s all about taking steps every day to live the life you want. Life isn’t always just the “pretty reveal”, and things don’t instantly go from “broken” to “perfect”.
It’s easy to look at before and after photos and forget all about the small steps in between. Then when you begin to tackle something, you may end up feeling like you are doing it wrong or that something is wrong with you that the “pretty reveal” doesn’t just happen.
Every step forward, even if just a tiny one, is one step closer to the “pretty reveal” than you were before. That’s why I share all the not-so-pretty with you. Most of us spend most of our lives in that “in between”. Not totally ugly, but not totally perfect either. That’s OK.

- Install wall of cabinets and open shelves
- baseboard trim
- install crown molding
- paint and install door trim
- install wood beams on ceiling
- reseal top of table
- decorate / accessorize
