This week will be 6 months since we bought our little cottage along the coast and while I’m tempted to feel a little frustrated at the progress, I have to remind myself that we are ready for shiplap and finishing the floors because all the behind-the-scenes work is done. In total, we’ve been to the cottage less than 20 days total and things from here should start moving more quickly or at least feel like they are because it will be more visual.
We recently spent a very cold weekend at the cottage so B could finish up a few projects and I installed insulation throughout the first floor. For me, being a visual person, getting the insulation in felt like a big step because it makes the walls look a bit more “finished”. It also means we’ll soon be able to heat and cool the place!
This really wasn’t a difficult project to do. In fact, I did the insulation completely by myself while B worked on some other things. It was a lot of up and down on a ladder, measuring, cutting, etc. but if you are using regular old paper-backed insulation, it’s a task most homeowners can easily do themselves.
This hasn’t been the prettiest project to photograph or even share to this point, but that’s the reality of renovating a house. It’s not all pretty and sometimes the stuff no one sees is what takes the longest.
On a lighter (and more attractive note) I also was finally able to paint the small downstairs bedroom. It’s amazing what paint will do to a room! Getting the painting done also meant that B was able to hang the ceiling fan and install the bracket for the TV since we’ll be using this room as a den/office when we are there alone. The unfinished wall is waiting for shiplap and our custom closet cabinets that I’ll be sharing more about in the near future.
We are officially ready for shiplap and our initial ETA was mid March so every day we anxiously await a phone call that it’s ready. We are certainly ready because now so much of what needs done next, ties into getting the shiplap installed.
In the meantime, we’ve also got a few projects kicking off here at home that I’ll be sharing in the coming weeks.
