Budget Friendly Updates for the Master Bedroom

Your master bedroom whether big or small, should be a relaxing escape for you to rest and get away.  When your bedroom isn’t that restful and relaxing place, it can impact your sleep and overall mood which can in turn impact your health and relationship.

My master bedroom is that one room in the house that I just can’t seem to get my brain wrapped around.    It’s not for lack of inspiration or knowledge that something needs done.  It just feels so overwhelming, time consuming and EXPENSIVE to do everything that needs to be done in there so I end up frustrated and feeling like I don’t know where to begin.

Aside from the shear amount of work, the room comes with it’s own challenges.  It’s awkwardly shaped, has three large windows and three doors plus a very large radiator.  All of this combined with almost no wall open wall space, makes placing furniture difficult.

Way back in July, I shared some inspiration for our master bedroom.  Even back then, it was one of the projects I knew we most needed to tackle.  I started repainting the walls and never finished and never did anything more to the room.  With B traveling more for work lately, I’ve been wanting to get back to work our bedroom so that he has a warm and welcoming place to crash at night.  Since the holidays are right around the corner, I’m taking this project slow and I’m sticking to a budget.

Below are six ways to update your master bedroom on a budget.  I’ll be breaking each one down in more detail in the future to today I’m giving you the overall picture.  Whether your budget is $50 or $5000, one or more of these areas below can go a long way toward energizing your tired space.

I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it at least 100 more times here but paint is a super inexpensive way to update a room for very little money.  Paint the walls or just an accent wall, paint a piece of furniture, paint the trim or even the ceiling!  It doesn’t matter but I promise a little paint and sweat equity will go a long way toward breathing new life into a tired space!

Ok, I know, curtains for an entire room can get pretty expensive but there are some really great options out there that wont break the bank.  If you are handy with a sewing machine, there are also lots of tutorials out there on how to make beautiful drapes from bed sheets and drop cloth fabric.  Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.  Even if you aren’t repainting your room, new curtains can completely change the look and feel of a room!

If you are only changing one thing in your bedroom but want the biggest impact possible, change out the bedding.  A new quilt, comforter or duvet cover will make a huge impact on the look of a room.   Since the bed is often the focal point of the bedroom, don’t be afraid of going a little bold even if just as a throw.

If your bedroom just needs a little extra oompf then adding some fun throw pillows may be just what your space lacks.  From pillow covers to accent pillows, your options, colors and patterns are endless and the right ones can make a huge impact.

If you aren’t looking to spend any money on updates to your master bedroom, go for a little shopping spree in your house.  Turn side tables into night stands, add extra seating in your bedroom with an armchair from your family room.  Get creative, re-purpose and have fun.  Don’t need furniture, what about accessories.

Have diamond taste on a CZ budget?  That’s ok, recreate your favorite looks with some DIY.  From artwork to that beautiful finish on a piece of furniture.  Find ways to recreate those luxury looks from your favorite magazine or TV show with some creativity and craftiness.
