An Updated Corner of our Family Room with Thrifted Art

Thrift stores and flea markets can be great places to find quality art at a fraction of retail and can add a lot of character to your home.

Hello friends! I’m so glad you stopped by to see this fun, updated corner of our family room with thrifted art! Art has been at the top of my list lately when visiting my favorite thrift stores and I’ve been fortunate to find some really great pieces in the past several months. I’m finally getting some of my recent finds hung on our walls, and I’m so excited to share my progress with you today!

This little corner of our family room is one I rarely share. Honestly it’s not usually the tidiest of spots as my lovely secretary often looks a bit disheveled from paying bills, doing paperwork or simply from using it as a drop zone sometimes.

I took a little time for myself while B was away the other night on a business trip and decided to move around some of my artwork and get this corner looking good.

In many ways it’s a mashup of different styles but that’s kind of how B and I are. We like traditional, more formal looking pieces, but we are also pretty casual so I’m always trying to find a balance.

My mother-in-law gifted me three of the picnic baskets and I already had one of them. Three would be my preference but with our tall ceilings, four feels proportionally better.

The two square framed art pieces were a find earlier this year at our favorite thrift store. They are my current favorites and I love that I was able to put them in such a prominent place where i can enjoy them every day.

On the opposite side of my secretary is my most recent find. The frame isn’t as nice as some of my other pieces but I really loved the pen and watercolor design. While it doesn’t look like our house, it has the same feel and age so it felt appropriate. I feel like it needs some “friends” to hang above or below but I’m waiting till I find just the right things.

The orange chair is one of a pair that I found at a flea market years ago. It’s not a great fit here but I haven’t found anything better and I do like to have a chair near the secretary for when I want to work there.

This little corner is exactly why I love home décor so much. Nothing is ever set in stone and starting with what you already have and building, adding or replacing on that is how you create a space that you truly love.

While your space may not be perfect right now, try to find contentment in where you are right now and in knowing that there is potential to make it even better.

I wasn’t planning on doing much in our family room this year, but as I find new art and unexpectedly replaced our drapes, I’m feeling even more inspired to make even more changes to this space.
