Affordable Beds for any Style Bedroom

At Home· Bedroom· Home Decor

The bed is often the focal point of any bedroom.  While some of you may be fortunate enough to have a fireplace or other great architectural feature that becomes the focal point, in most cases that main feature is the bed.  That means when your bed is less than eye catching, the room can often feel flat or blah.
When B and I moved into our current home, we quickly decided to downsize from our king bed to a queen.  We bought a new mattress set but ended up using the headboard and frame from a bedroom set we bought at an auction.  The vintage headboard was great and I always had thoughts of painting it to make it feel more modern but the base of it was in bad shape and in a small room with tall ceilings, it felt tiny.  When I finally decided to update our master bedroom, I knew I needed to work a new bed into the budget somehow.
Originally, when I started planning our bedroom makeover this past summer, I actually designed a headboard that was really tall with the idea of us mounting lamps to it.  With B’s new job and working solo in the shop again, I realized building a custom headboard may not be the best use of our extra time so I went on the hunt for an affordable option that was ready to go.
Just like with most furniture, beds can be really pricey so I made it my mission to find something I could live with for less than $500 with the hopes that I’d find something more in the $300 range so I could keep my overall $500 room budget.  With a little effort, I actually found some great options that look great and are good quality for the price.
I was going for something more on the traditional side with a touch of modern but realized that just about any bed can take on any style if styled properly.  Today I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for a modern style, traditional style and a farmhouse style but i think any bed could work in any category.  What do you think?  Do you have a favorite?

Farmhouse Style Beds

Black Metal Bed | Dark Brown Wood Platform Bed | Grey Paneled Wood Bed | White Washed Shiplap Bed

Modern Style Beds

Cream Upholstered Bed | Angled Metal Bed | Wooden Platform Bed | Grey Geometric Upholstered Bed

Traditional Style Beds

Navy Tufted Upholstered Bed | Grey Curved Top Bed | Simple Curved Top Bed | Modern Sleigh Bed

While I would have been happy with any of the beds I rounded up, I ended up going with the Abbyson Richmond Upholstered Bed in Charcoal from Overstock.  It’s a little darker than I thought it would be but now that it’s in the room, I love the contrast against all the light colors.  It makes more of an impact which I feel is a good thing given the headboard being on the shorter side.  As I add more elements to the room, I have more ideas of things to do so the bed is still a work-in-progress.

For about $225 I’m really happy with the bed.  I think our mattress feels more sturdy now and when we upgrade our mattress we plan to go without the box spring which will show more of the headboard.  I was amazed at how just changing out the bed made a world of difference in the room.  I’m even more excited now to get our bedroom finished.
