October always seems to move at its own pace; slower somehow, like the world is gently exhaling after summer.
This year, I didn’t do as much decorating as I usually do. Between B traveling for work, a few projects in motion, and just the rhythm of life, our home has stayed pretty simple. But maybe that’s what I needed — a softer, quieter kind of fall.
🍂 Little Moments Around Home
The leaves have been falling steadily here, blanketing the yard in golden brown layers. Ozzy has been loving every minute, sprawling out in the patch of afternoon sun in the backyard, soaking up the last warm rays before the chill settles in for good.
Our weekends have been quieter, too. We took a short trip to our family property in the mountains earlier this month; just a couple of days surrounded by crisp air, campfires, and the comfort that comes from being away from it all. Those moments always remind me how grounding simplicity can be.
Back home, the porch has become my favorite little corner of the season. I gathered pumpkins and mums, and mixed in a few dried hydrangeas from our yard, their faded colors perfectly echoing the changing leaves. Brad also built the most beautiful vintage-inspired ladder out of oak from my parents’ property, and it now sits beside our door, layered with blankets and a touch of greenery. It feels like a reflection of everything I love about autumn: sentimental, handmade, and rooted in family.
🪑 Simple Comforts Indoors
Inside, October has been all about settling in. B brought home a chair and ottoman someone was giving away; pieces that, with a little vision, will be perfect for my upcoming dining room transformation. I love finding ways to breathe new life into things others overlook; it makes a home feel more lived-in and loved.
We also celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary this month. Nothing extravagant; just time together, good food, and a shared sense of gratitude. Those are the moments that mean the most.
And on the practical side, we’ve been preparing for a new roof. It’s a big project and one we’ve been putting off, but it feels good to finally move toward giving our home the care it deserves.
🕯️ A Slow October
This October wasn’t filled with grand projects or elaborate decor, but rather small, quiet joys, a season of being instead of doing. As the days shorten and the air cools, I’m finding comfort in this slower rhythm.
Sometimes the best kind of beauty is the kind that sneaks up on you: a dog napping in a sunbeam, a stack of pumpkins by the door, the sound of leaves crunching underfoot, or the warmth of a handmade ladder on the porch.
Here’s to soaking in the last golden days of fall before winter finds its way in.
Until next time,
Bethann
