Hello and welcome to another Stitch Fix review. My July 2017 Stitch Fix wasn’t my favorite but I was not discouraged. Stitch Fix is still an amazing styling service that enables me to try things that I wouldn’t otherwise get to try and on my own time and in my own home.
In case you aren’t familiar, Stitch Fix is a subscription service where you pay a small $20 fee, fill out a detailed profile, pick your fix frequency and share any relevant social media accounts and then a stylist will custom pick 5 items and send them to you to try on at home. You keep and pay for what you want and return the rest in the pre-paid bag. If you keep at least one of your items, your styling fee is waived and if you keep all five items, you get a 25% discount on your entire order.
In addition to the five items, you also receive styling cards which show you two different ways to style each item in your fix. You also get a personalized note from your stylist explaining the pieces she has selected and why. Once you have decided on your items, you leave feedback and the better the feedback, the better your next fix will be.
What was in My Fix
Report Footwear – Carson Strappy Sandal $40
My first shoes from Stitch Fix! I pinned several pairs of sandals with notes to my stylist that I didn’t have a lot of sandals that I would wear so I was pretty thrilled that she sent me such a cute pair. I knew immediately they were a keeper and I wire them the first day I had them and LOVE them. I love the multi-color look because they will go with everything. I also love all the straps which look so cute on.
Style Takeaway: Seasonal items like sandals can be a great way to spruce up a tired wardrobe. Look for styles that fit your lifestyle and that have a classic feel that you can wear year after year. Always try sandals on to make sure they are not only comfortable but stay on your feet when you walk. Once like this have have multiple straps stay on your feet well without needing an ankle strap.
Kai Leigh – Hampden Knit Top $44
Since I’ve been gravitating more toward more casual pieces I was excited to see this cute tee in my fix. I loved the stripes and that it was black and white. When I put it on however, the stripes being in various widths didn’t flatter me. The wide stripes seemed to fall at my widest places making me look bigger than I am. I also felt the top part seemed huge which looked sloppy and boxy rather than falling over my curves in a flattering way.
Style Takeaway: Stripes can be a great pattern for any wardrobe but be sure to pick striped patterns that flatter. Wide stripes can easily go from cute to unflattering. If you are considering a top like this with varying stripes, try it on and make sure the wide bands flatter not enhance problem areas.
Dear John – Finnegan Cuffed Short $58
I’ve been wearing a lot of shorts lately and loved the color of these. I also have to say that they felt amazing. They feel like a very nice quality and the fabric has a bit of stretch in it which felt really good on. These shorts fit perfectly and the color looked good on my body. I also knew I had a lot of things I could wear with them but they were too short. I prefer shorts with at least a 5″ inseam and prefer 7″ or more.
Style Takeaway: Shorty shorts are everywhere and I’m a firm believer that after a certain age, women should avoid them. Shorts can be a great alternative to a skirt in the right style. If you are larger in the thigh area and have issues with shorts riding up, go for longer lengths that are more likely to stay put. If your legs are lean, length is less than an issue. For a more polished look, opt for shorts in more of a trouser style like these that can be worn dressed up for down for maximum use.
Q & A – Kaylene Lattice Trim Blouse $54
While I’d guess many women would shy away from the bold color of this top, it was one of the things I loved most about it. I love simple pieces with special details and aside from the color, this top has the prettiest lattice detail around the top that I knew I needed to keep it. Finished off with simple flutter sleeves this is a new favorite.
Style Takeaway: Blouses don’t have to be boring. Look for simple shapes with special details whether it’s a unique embellishment, pattern or color. Unique details like the lattice is what will start to define your own personal style and make your look different from everyone else’s. They are also great pieces that wont go out of style quickly.
Gilli – Blanchey Maxi Skirt $58
I really wanted to like this maxi skirt. I honestly did except the color combination threw me off. Had the beige been white I would have kept it but my stylist suggested mixing the orange top with this skirt and I just couldn’t see that happening on my body. The skirt fit well, looked cute on but I could really only picture myself wearing it one way which goes against my new shopping rules.
Style Takeaway: When looking at pieces to add to your wardrobe consider what you already have that will work with those potential items. If you can only think of one way to wear something then it mostly likely isn’t a good pick and could very well end up just sitting in your closet. If you can suddenly picture several ways to wear something then you are more likely to get a lot of use out of it.
My July 2017 Stitch Fix wasn’t my favorite but I think it was a good experience for my new stylish and I to go through together. My new stylist did an amazing job last time but I haven’t been doing a lot to update my profile or communicate new information to her so while it would be been amazing to be blown away again, I am not at all discouraged by only keeping two items. I’ll be looking forward to August!
