Now that Labor Day has come and gone, I’m feeling more like adding fall touches throughout our home. I started in the mudroom and have been slowly working my way around the house. While I’m wrapping up photos for a fall home tour that will be ready soon, today I want to share with you a simple and natural early fall vignette in the pantry area.
Our pantry is my favorite part of our kitchen renovation and it remains such a great addition to our home. It’s given our microwave a close but not visible home to our microwave and given me a place to display some of my most used cookbooks and other kitchen accessories.
As I ease our home into fall more everyday, it seemed like the perfect spot to add new natural elements for an early fall vignette.
On the counter, I moved our toaster oven to the pantry closet because it’s not something we use every day. That gave me a great spot for my vintage enamel kitchen scale, some of my favorite cookbooks and a vase of my freshly cut hydrangea blooms. A few additional accessories and it has a hint of fall.
On the shelves above the microwave, I moved some things around, added another vase of hydrangea cuts from the yard and filled a basket with apples for a little color. With a few additional accessories, this spot was complete and it’s the perfect blend of function with the feel of the coming season.
The benefit of decorating in vignettes
If decorating your home in general or for the season makes you feel overwhelmed or leaves you with no idea where to begin, start by creating a simple vignette. Choose a dresser or side table top and create one simple “scene” by mixing elements of different heights, textures, colors, etc.
Creating smaller vignettes is a great way to ease into decorating by allowing you to focus on one small area at a time. I enjoy creating vignettes around the house and find that I often move things from room to room which allows me to reuse things I already have in new ways.
Creating vignettes is a great way to practice your creative decorating without the pressure of tackling an entire room especially if you don’t have a lot of decor items to work with.
As you can see from my early fall vignette, you don’t always need a lot to create an interesting vignette to enjoy and add some fall touches to your home.
