While there is still a bit of summer left to enjoy, I thought it was time to finally get around to sprucing up our master bedroom. I don’t typically do a lot of actual “decorating” for the summer season but incorporating a little bit of coastal influence seems just enough to leave our traditional master bedroom feeling a little lighter while the temperatures outside remain hot.
Our newer bedroom furniture is a rich dark brown which can feel a bit heavy in the summer. We love the furniture but in the summer it’s nice to balance the darkness of the finish with a more airy, lighter look so the room feels fresh and relaxing like a summer day.

I recently added a simple, neutral bedskirt which is nice because it hides the storage underneath. It’s a very lightweight material and probably not what I’d want long term but I haven’t had a bed skirt on our bed for as long as I can remember (10 years?) so I wanted to see if I’d like it.
While there are so many ways to make a bed, I opted for a simple look that includes a light weight neutral quilt and simple, layered pillows. For some color and pattern, this pretty blue and tan duvet in a traditional print that features sea shells and other nautical elements gives the room a subtle coastal feel.
Both the quilt set and duvet set are from Amazon and for the price, are both nice. You get what you pay for and I was not at all disappointed with either purchase. The duvet is beautiful, very timeless which is more the look I’ve been wanting lately.
Our “nightstands” are styled very simply that I’ve tried to differentiate based on our personalities and personal tastes. Mine with pretty and more feminine touches, B’s with a more minimal and utilitarian look. I hate that old alarm clock but B has had it forever and refuses to part with it.
The rest of the room is pretty minimal. I’ve never really done a lot of decorating and there are still many projects to “finish” in here which brings me to some things I have planned to change and improve our master bedroom in the near future.
