I finally feel like I’m getting back in the groove blogging and I can’t wait to share with you all the progress we’ve been making on the house. We’ve moved into the Master Bedroom now but before I start showing you everything we have going on in there, I want to show you the beautiful new light fixture in the upstairs lounge and share with you a little bit about how mixing styles can tell your story.
First things first. The new upstairs lounge (bedroom #3) light fixture. We went back and forth on doing a ceiling fan (high ceilings = super hot rooms in the summer) or doing a light fixture of some kind. Once the room was painted, I couldn’t get out of my head the idea of doing a gold / brass light fixture.
My first idea was to do gold sconces on the feature wall but after some thought I decided that where I put the sconces may not work depending on how this room is used. After doing back and forth on a ceiling fan I settled on doing a gold light fixture.
With the trim done and the room painted, the room now has a traditional look of a historic house. That wasn’t my original intent and I don’t plan on using vintage furniture so I decided to balance the historic feel with a more modern light fixture.
I found this fixture online but it was no longer available at Lowes so I was determined to find it somewhere else. Wal-Mart came through and it was at a lower price which was a major WIN!
I love the brushed brass finish. The color is beautiful and the finish isn’t too glossy. The style is kind of a modern take on a classic chandelier and it’s absolutely perfect in the room. It looks so good, our master bedroom is starting to get jealous!
Mixing Styles to Tell your Story
As we’ve been working on our upstairs projects, I’m realizing that as time goes, my style is changing and evolving. While I love a livable, casual, farmhouse style, B and I also love elements of other styles like traditional and modern.
When creating your dream home, don’t feel tied to just one style. Weave elements of all the styles you love into your spaces always being mindful of how certain pieces work together.
Mixing styles can work if you keep basic principles like texture, color, proportion and pattern in mind just like you would if you were working with just one style. The end result will be a more true story of who you are.
With this room complete (minus the hardwood flooring) it’s time to move on to our master bedroom so that we can begin the second phase of our upstairs project. More updates to come!
