Exactly one month ago, I shared some fun news about us buying an older truck camper instead of a tent for our boating trips. We knew right away that we were going to give the little camper a more modern makeover but in order to get started we needed to have a design plan for the truck camper.
We knew nothing about truck campers going into it and have learned quite a bit about the challenges with older truck campers and modern trucks as well as maintenance on older campers that I am looking forward to sharing with you in the coming weeks. Before I get into that, I wanted to share with you the two design plan options that I came up with for the truck camper and later this week I’ll be sharing with you what we decided on and show the progress we are making on it so far.
I shared in my original post that we originally thought we were buying a pop up truck camper and at that time I was sure I wanted to do a modern farmhouse makeover in black, white and neutrals. When we ended up buying the Starcraft, I kept the original plan but B really wanted something more colorful so I went back to the drawing board and planned out an alternative design plan that we could then decide on.
Boho Modern Farmhouse Camper Design Plan
The original plan featured a mix of modern farmhouse elements with a touch of boho that I was personally really excited about. This plan included white walls and cabinets, a neutral / natural drop cloth fabric for the seat cushions and curtains, a fun mix of printed pillows and a black and white printed rug set for over the farmhouse style floor planks.
I took it even a step further by finding some fun farmhouse style lights to replace the generic camper lights and had planned on painting the existing hardware black. The simple color palette and patterns wouldn’t overpower such a small space and all the white would keep it light and bright.
Modern Boho Coastal Design Plan
When B said he really wanted a design that was bright and colorful, I knew I needed to step back and find a way to keep it simple for my taste but bring in some more color for B and keep it bright.
For this plan, I kept white walls and cabinets with painted black hardware for a light and bright base. Once again, the floors would be a weathered look grey farmhouse style plank flooring. Instead of neutrals for the cushions, we’d cover them is a blue-green fabric with a simple pattern and then go light and simple with curtains.
We ended up going with the coastal inspired design plan and even though I initially wanted a more neutral look, I’m excited about how things are turning out. I’ll be sharing a progress reveal later this week and I can’t wait for you to see it.
