Laundry Room Design Inspiration

At Home· Home Decor· Laundry & Mudroom

8 Sep

Your laundry room is one of those rooms in the house that you may not think of when thinking of pretty spaces.  It’s one of those rooms or closets you may not want to think about let alone spend time in but would laundry seem less of a chore if your space was actually pretty and a place you actually enjoyed?

With our current renovations, our existing laundry room no longer exists.  We opened the wall to create a doorway from our new kitchen and the plan has been to then relocate the laundry room to what will be our mudroom.

I can honestly say that aside from the kitchen, I have been the most excited about designing the laundry room. B doesn’t do laundry…EVER, so I have known all along this would be a space I could have fun with and need little input from anyone else.

Since the laundry room will also function as our mudroom in a relatively small space, I knew I needed to be creative with how we planned out the room to get maximum storage and function without feeling too cluttered.

When B and I originally planned out the size of the mudroom we originally thought we’d put our front load washer and dryer side by side with a countertop over top but the more I thought about it, I really like having the washer and dryer stacked and the idea of having a utility sink right inside the back door seemed like an upgrade to anything we’ve had so far.

My overall vision for the room is dark tile floors, white walls, shiplap ceiling and an aqua – green cabinet color but before going too far into my plans I rounded up some inspiration to help me better visualize what I want the space to be so I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites to share with you today.

While the color of the cabinets is a bit more “beachy” than I envision, this is almost exactly what I have been seeing in my head.  The vintage-style sink with the stacked washer and dryer and storage above the sink with white walls. Simple but pretty and functional too!

Much closer to the green color I’m envisioning for the cabinets and this is just the right amount of natural wood to warm everything up.

Originally my vision was to do black hexagon tiles with white grout but in the end I’m leaning toward something more classic and maybe even a bit lighter than this but I can’t help but love how dramatic this looks!

We’re making process on the shell of the new laundry and mudroom and we’ve started gathering materials and fixtures, narrowing down tile options and putting the finishing touches on the design.  I can’t wait to share more with you!
