Unofficial End to Summer

Lifestyle· Real Life

1 Sep

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of Summer.  While Autumn doesn’t technically start until the 22nd, the long weekend often serves as the summer ending marker.  The schools have started classes again and I’ve noticed leaves starting to turn which are often the beginning signs that fall is on its way.

While the warm weather will likely hang on here in PA for a while yet, for me Labor Day weekend ushers in my favorite time of year.  At the same time it often leaves me a little sad that it won’t be long until it will be too cold and messy to spend a lot of time outside.

This Labor Day marks the 10th Anniversary of a tradition in my family.  Every Labor Day weekend for the past 10 years, my brother and family host a large picnic and pig roast for family and friends that lasts the entire weekend.  While it’s shifted over the years from an official family reunion, it’s now more of a friends and family event but it’s still one of the things we look forward to every year.

While the actual picnic is always on Sunday, the celebrations last all weekend long.  Nothing fancy, just good food, good company and a few adult beverages too.

Does your family have any end of summer traditions that you’ll be doing this weekend?  Leave a comment below and share.
