Finding the right nightstands for your bedroom can be tricky. When shopping online for ideas, you may find that more often than not, nightstands are sold in the same category as end tables but dimensions can vary greatly. Finding the right combination of height, depth and storage may require some measuring and planning.
As I’ve mentioned before, our Master Bedroom makeover wasn’t really something we planned and budgeted for so my goal was to find ways to improve our space without spending a lot of money. We also know that this is likely not our forever home so buying furniture to fit this tiny room may not be the best decision long term. With my budget in mind and not really knowing what I wanted, between looking online and a few quick visits to some furniture stores, I realized I didn’t see anything that I really loved.
In my business, the clients I fear the most are the ones that have no idea what they want because they are ALWAYS the hardest to please. I kind of feared this of myself when considering nightstand options because I felt like I was all over the place. I really loved the idea of doing mismatched night stands since our furniture is often mismatched anyway. I wasn’t sure I could do it in a way that didn’t make our already mismatched furniture look even more random. Then one day while scrolling through Pinterest, I found this.

Affordable? Yes. Easy? Yes. Functional? Yes. Attractive? If styled well, yes. Given the cost and simplicity, going this route seemed a no-brainer.
I started shopping around for cube shelves and found these lovelies on Amazon on sale for $35 each! I bought two in white right away but did consider the weathered wood look. I put them together myself and now they just need accessorized! I think it will be fun styling each of our nightstands to suit us.
Caution: Depending on the height of your bed, these may be taller than you’d like. Just like with anything else, be sure to take measurements before committing to shelves like these or any other nightstand option. For us, these bookshelves seemed almost too high until we put in our new bed.
Cube shelves are pretty much the same but I’ve rounded up a few options if this seems like a good idea for your bedroom or other space.

I especially like the version from Hayneedle.com because the cubes aren’t square. This makes the shelf more narrow which would better in smaller places (like my bedroom).
I also really love the version from Target. I have the 8 cube version in the shop for storage and for fiberboard furniture, it’s very heavy and has held up to a lot of abuse. I also really love the metal legs which not only get the shelf up off the floor but also give the look for of a modern, industrial feel.
