Even though fall doesn’t officially arrive for another couple of weeks, now that Labor Day has come and gone, if you are like me, Fall is officially on the brain. I think so many of us love fall for the same reasons and it all boils down to a feeling of coziness. So, whether you are decorating your home for the fall season now, or are wanting to add a more cozy feel to your home all year long, today I’m sharing with you some of my favorite ways to make your home feel more inviting and cozy.
Why this Matters to me
I completely underestimated how much our beach house project would consume our lives this summer and that left things here at home feeling neglected. As summer wound down, I felt the pull to pay more attention to our time at home and make it feel more cozy and inviting not just for us but for anyone visiting as well.
Maybe you’ve been so busy this summer too that you haven’t done much to decorate or improve your home, or maybe you simply don’t know what to do to make your home feel more cozy. No worries, my friends, that’s what I’m here for today!
Ways to Make your home Feel more Inviting and Cozy
Add Natural Elements
From natural wood furniture to natural fiber rugs, baskets or organic elements like plants and greenery, adding natural elements go a long way toward giving a home life and making it feel more inviting. Even if real plants aren’t an option, faux greenery or flowers can add a softer touch to your decor so don’t let your lack of a green thumb scare you..
Swap out rugs for a jute or sisal rug or add baskets for added storage or texture in your decor. There are so many options, big and small, for adding natural elements to your home for a more inviting and cozy feel.
Layer on More Pillows & Throws
Nothing looks more inviting or feels more cozy than a sofa for bed layered with pillows. Pillows can add a punch of color or pattern to an otherwise simple space or add interest by adding pattern (or a mix of patterns) to liven up any room of your home.
This time of year, as the weather gets cooler, we spend more time inside so what’s more enjoyable than snuggling up on your sofa with lots of soft fluffy pillows (and your dog).
Mix Textures
Layering on different textures, even all in the same color, will create a more cozy and inviting feel to even a monochromatic room and is maybe one of the easiest ways to make your home feel more inviting.
Textures give us a sense of luxury and livability and keep a space from feeling flat and bland. Not sure how to achieve this? Think smooth finished woods, soft, fluffy rugs and fabrics in a mix of styles and finishes.
Revise your Seating Layout to Invite more Gathering
When arranging furniture in your family room, for example, group your seating in ways that promote people gathering together to talk and hang out.
This is by far the biggest issue I currently have with our family room. Our furniture, as much as we love it, is so bulky, we don’t have a great way to arrange it so that when we have visitors, we can sit and talk comfortably. That’s not what we want for an inviting home.
It starts in the Entry
Nothing says “come on in” more than an inviting entryway that makes your guests (and you) want to come in, see more of your home, and stay awhile. Create an entry that is clutter free and functional and that flows openly into the rest of your home even if it isn’t physically open to the rest of your home.
