Summer has transitioned into fall (at least the calendar says so) and we’ve been taking advantage of the last days of warm weather to continue to work outside on some remaining projects.

One of the things we didn’t get done as part of our summer backyard project list is replacing the old wooden siding on the back addition of the house. The back part of the house and deck have been a real eyesore so I’m sure our neighbors have been rooting for us to finally get to this project.

While the section at the back of the shop and basement still needs to be finished, this section is at least still in tact and not such an ugly visual when looking out a window.

Now that we are getting the siding done, it’s time to start thinking about the finishing details like lighting. This is a detail we’ve been without for several months and I have to say, letting the dogs outside at night isn’t my favorite in the dark.

Finding the right lighting has proved to be more difficult than I thought though. We bought lighting years ago with the intention of replacing what was on the house but then the deck happened and the backyard projects and what we picked back then feels way too formal for the back side of the house.

Our house was built in the 1860s so it has a very traditional, colonial feel. It’s brick with tall windows and large flat surfaces so finding something that doesn’t look too dinky is important too.

Being on the back of the house in a high-traffic area, I don’t want anything too delicate. I love the idea of seeded glass but with no cover and in such a high traffic area, I feel like something more sturdy would work better but going too casual (like a barn style light) might look weird too.

Because I’m on the fence, I decided to find something inexpensive that I won’t feel bad replacing down the road if I’m not happy. I started my search on Amazon and quickly found a variety of styles with the feel I’m leaning toward and I’ve rounded them up for you.
